Egypt and Sudan Leaders Hold Talks on Sudan Crisis and Nile Basin Security

 

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held high-level talks today with Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council Chairman, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, who is currently on an official visit to Cairo. The discussions focused on recent developments in Sudan, as well as broader regional issues related to the Nile Basin and the Horn of Africa.

Both sides emphasized the urgent need to intensify diplomatic and humanitarian efforts to support the Sudanese people amid the ongoing conflict, stressing the importance of halting violations against civilians and ensuring accountability for those responsible.

President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and national security, underscoring Cairo’s readiness to exert all possible efforts to help Sudan overcome its current challenges and restore stability.

For his part, Al-Burhan expressed deep appreciation for Egypt’s continued support and its constructive role in seeking solutions to the Sudanese crisis, highlighting the strong historical ties between the two countries.

Regarding regional affairs, the two leaders confirmed alignment in their views on national security priorities, agreeing to maintain close coordination to safeguard water security. They also reiterated their rejection of unilateral actions in the Blue Nile basin and stressed the necessity of adhering to international law in a manner that ensures shared benefits for all Nile Basin countries.
