Dubai to Enforce Final Phase of Single-Use Plastic Ban Starting January 2026

Dubai Municipality has confirmed that the final stage of the single-use plastic ban will come into effect on January 1, 2026, marking a major milestone in the emirate’s environmental transformation plan. The implementation follows Executive Council Resolution No. 124 of 2023, which aims to regulate the use of disposable products and support cleaner, sustainable practices across Dubai.

The new phase will prohibit a wide range of plastic items including disposable plates, cutlery, drink cups and lids, in addition to previously banned products such as stirrers, ear buds, food containers and polystyrene cups. The measure aligns with the UAE’s national policy under Ministerial Decision 380 of 2022 regarding the regulation of single-use materials in local markets.

Dubai Municipality has also developed a comprehensive awareness guide to help individuals and businesses shift toward eco-friendly alternatives. With cooperation from both public and private sectors, the city continues to promote sustainable habits, accelerate circular economy initiatives, and protect natural resources for future generations.

This implementation builds on earlier phases launched in 2024 with the removal of single-use plastic bags, followed by broader restrictions in 2025 targeting additional disposable products as part of a long-term environmental strategy.
